NEW December 16, 2019: ALL ASSIGNMENTS ARE NOW GRADED AND CAN BE COLLECTED FROM KATHY SHAW.

DECEMBER 10, 2019: All assignments that were handed in BEFORE the strike action have been graded and returned in class. Uncollected assignments are available now from Kathy Shaw. ESSAYS are due DEC 11. The last day to submit any outstanding assignments is DEC 13 before 4PM. If you cannot hand in the essay on DEC 11 and would like to do so on DEC 13, please email me BEFORE CLASS tomorrow.

DECEMBER 3, 2019: UPDATE ON SEMESTER SCHEDULE: Classes will be extended until DECEMBER 13 and the exam period is cancelled. Our last class will be DECEMBER 11. We will stick with our current reading list but will revisit it next Monday. For those of you signed up for the exam, I will create an alternative assignment for you. Please come to class tomorrow prepared to discuss “A Modest Proposal.” Discussion Questions for that reading are on the Links/Docs page under the Class Documenets heading.

DECEMBER 2, 2019: I have added the Group Discussion Questions for “A Modest Proposal” to the Links/Docs page under the “Class Documents” heading. On the assumption that we will be in class on Wednesday, please read the essay and make notes for each of the questions.

DECEMBER 1, 2019: We will be returning to class on Monday, December 2. The Faculty will be undertaking teaching duties only as we are still involved in job action. The remainder of the semester, the schedule and the status of exams will be determined by Senate at a meeting on Monday afternoon. Therefore, I will not have those answers for you at the time of our class meeting. So, in light of these circumstances, I can tell you the following:

  1. DUE DATES are suspended until we know what the schedule will look like. We will reset these due dates and determine a plan for outstanding assignments once we have the necessary information;
  2. CLASSWORK: We will return to our last scheduled readings on Monday. For you, that means the Introduction to the 18th Century and your 5 Main Points for Monday’s class. Bring your textbooks;
  3. INDIVIDUAL INQUIRIES: I have already received many individual inquiries about assignments etc. by email. I cannot respond to these until we know the decisions of Senate. Therefore, please be patient and anything that is not resolved generally will be addressed as soon as I can do so;
  4.  STUDENT MEETING HOURS: I will be holding general student hours TUESDAY, DECEMBER 3, 9:00-11:00 in addition to my regular Wednesday hours (9:00-11:00).
  5. See the following FAQ PPT from the Faculty Association for more information:

NOVEMBER 6, 2019: RE: the impending job action: we will plan to be back for next Wednesday, so keep to your original DUE DATES for remaining assignments. If the job action lasts longer, we will regroup on our return and come up with a plan.

OCTOBER 18, 2019: I have added a new, PPT: REVISED Governance, Power and Authority, to the Links/Docs page. We will be referring to it on Monday. There is a homework slide at the end in case you want to get a jump on that.

OCTOBER 10, 2019:

1. REMINDER that you will be doing your IN-CLASS SIGHT PASSAGE on OCT 21 (NOTE: I will be traveling from PEI on Oct 20 and expect to be back in class on Oct 21. If I experience travel delays, I will arrange for someone to deliver and invigilate the IN-CLASS SIGHT PASSAGE. In the event that this is not possible, we will do the exercise on Wednesday, Oct. 23. Please check this page and your emails for updates. If you don’t hear from me, all will continue as scheduled.);
